Home Visit to Tong Sim Senior Citizen Care Centre

In Community Service, Projects on July 15, 2009 at 1:33 AM

Date: Sunday, 14 th June 2009

Time: 12.30pm

Venue: Tong Sim Senior Citizen Care Centre

Members Attended: President Darren Chong, OC Jose, Kee Oi, Kievan, Chin Hwa, Sharon, I- Lin and  Gloria.

Members meet up around 10.30am at Kayu for breakfast before proceeding to Loong Foong restaurant to collect the lunch at 11.30am. Arrive at  Tong Sim Senior Citizens Care Centre at 12.15pm. It is located behind Wisma MAA of Jalan Lapangan Terbang Lama, KL.

There are around 40 senior citizens and all are staying at the 1st floor. Some are not able to walk and need to move around in wheel chairs.

Our club provided them with lunch and donations of food/necessity. Some donations also came in from I-Lin and my friends and families. Members helped the old folks with lunch and also talk to them. The old folks are very satisfy and enjoyed the lunch we provided. There are some volunteers from a buddish association helping them to clean up the centre on that day too.

Mr Cheong Loy is the person in charge of this center. According to Mr Cheong Loy, this centre have been set up 10 years ago. The old folks are mostly abandoned from the hospitals by their family. The hospitals will provide them with free medical care when needed. The expenses to run the centre comes from Mr Cheong Loy’s business and some donation from the public.

Overall they have a lot of food donated by the public but the facility is not well maintained and feel warm because of poor air ventilation. Hopefully their standard of living will improve when they move to a bigger home at Salak South this year. We notice the wheel chairs are not enough and some are defective. We hope to provide them the wheel chairs in future. We left the center around 2.30pm.
